Cloudera Certified Developer for CDH4 (CCD-410)

Finally today after all the procrastination, I got through Cloudera Certified Developer for Apache Hadoop CDH4 (CCD-410) with 95% (57 correct answers out of 60 questions). Cloudera is offering a 40% off CDH4 tests and Second Shot till the end of the year (2012), so I took the last opportunity on 31st December, 2012.

Took the appointment with Pearson Vue (the customer service was fantastic) on 27th December, 2012 and the certification exam on 31st December, 2012. As many of you know, I am a big fan of Hadoop and related technologies and had been helping others through this blog and through different forums like Hyderabad-HUG and StackOverflow. All of this and the support I got helped me to get through the certification with a good score with just two days of preparation.

Finally, for those who are thinking about getting through the certification,  Hadoop - The Definitive Guide - 3rd Edition book is a must read with a lot of hands on experience. Also, there were no specific questions related to Cloudera version of Hadoop. Getting familiar with the Apache version Hadoop is enough for the certification.

It was a nice way to say good bye to 2012 and welcome 2013. I am very comfortable with setting up a Hadoop cluster and plan to complete the Cloudera Certified Administrator for Apache Hadoop CDH4 (CCA-410) some time in February, 2013. Will update on the same in another blog post.

  3. Hi Praveen,
In the certification exam, are there any code related questions? Or everything based on use-cases?

    2. Saurav,

The certification covers both a lot of code and a few use case based questions. There is a separate certification from Cloudera for the Administration.

    3. Another related question to the exam please. I have the first edition of Hadoop: the definite guide, do you know if that's enough to study from for the exam?
      Thank you,

    4. There are some questions on the next generation MR architecture, so better buy the 3rd edition.

  4. Thanks Praveen. About the code, my doubt is, is it something like drag n drop question form the programme. Or they gave question with code snippet and we need to answer those with an option?

  5. Hi Praveen, I have been working in Java for over 8 years now. I am considering a shift to Big Data, could you suggest some insight as to how I should move forward with it.

PS I plan to appear for the Cloudera Certified Developer for CDH4 (CCD-410), is that right approach?

    Thanks
    Abhishek

    1. Abhishek,

There are multiple paths in Big Data as with any other technology from Administrator to Architect to Developer to Tester. Again, in each of these tracks there are multiple things which you can do.

So, the path in Big Data depends on what you have done in the part and where you want to go in the future.

    2. Hi Pradeep,
Thanks for responding so quickly. I am considering the path of Hadoop Developer and then possibly Hadoop Architect. However reading the Hadoop tutorial @ yahoo, it seems this is a completely new paradigm, and would require a though process shift.
I have a background of Java - Client Server programming ranging from Insurance Applications/Products to building linguistic translation tools.

So my question would be how to go forward for this path, with my background? Any insight from you is highly appreciated.

      Thanks
      Abhishek

  8. Hi Praveen, I am new to Hadoop and currently working on Informatica and Teradata. I was wondering whether the how good should we be in Java to answer the coding questions in certification?

What is the % of questions that concentrate on Java or Hive or Pig?

Coming from the Datawarehousing background I am only familiar with OOPS concepts of Java and nothing much on the coding side.

Please advice the best approach for me to learn and get along with Hadoop Developer Certification.

Thanks for the site. It has a practice test too.
How difficult is the new format test? Hadoop - The Definitive Guide - 3rd Edition is enough ? I have it next week, for last couple of months i was away from Hadoop, is it right for me to go ahead with a week's preparation ?

      Thanks
